Stocking Progress
I got a little more done with the stocking. Since I don't have class this week, I promised myself that I would get some done. My goal really, is to have the stocking completely done for my next class (Dec 1st) so that my teacher can show me how to do the finishing as well as how to stitch it together along the edge! So, here's what we have so far:
The little bumps you see at the bottom are the heel. I worked on the turning last night to get the curve of the heel for either side. All I have left to do are the instep, gussets & toe! Then, I'll be ready for finishing. I haven't decided yet if I should do the duplicate stitch ("name") before or after I stitch it together. We'll see...

Knitting Class 5
Well, it's actually knitting class 7, but I had to miss the last 2. It was nice to finally sit down and do some more knitting. Plus, Santa has legs! My teacher, Dory, absolutely loves the stocking and has made a point to show it off in class a few times (to the complete chargrin on one of the other students). So, here it is so far:
I only have about 13 more rows before I get to the heel part, and my next row will start Santa's boots! I'm getting there. Hopefully, I can have this practice one done by Christmas. I already know I need to use smaller needles for the next one, and double up the angora yarn. I'm getting excited to get closer to the finishing stages!

Mmmmm
After years of Ryan calling out "Cheeburger Cheeburger" every time we'd go to Mitchells, PF Changs, or The Claddagh we finally decided to stop there to eat. It's a pretty neat place, kind of like a '50s diner. Obviously, as you can tell by the name, their "thing" is you can have a cheeseburger any way you want it. Their list of burger toppings is about as long as their milkshake list. One of the toppings: peanut butter. I'm not really into eating crazy things on my burger like Ryan is, so I wasn't all that thrilled with the place until I saw their milkshake menu:
I got a kiwi milkshake and Ryan, per usual, got his standard chocolate malt. He's still on a quest to find the world's best chocolate malt.
I tried to convince Ryan to order the double pounder and try to get his picture on the wall of fame, but he refused. All in all, the my burger was good and my milk shake was awesome. I want to go back just to try another flavor! Only thing I didn't like...the whole place smelled like green olives...not exactly appetizing. I think they need some better ventilation in there.
Also, on a total side note: If you want the softest, most dreamy, cloud-like jacket in the world, head up to Eddie Bauer. I'm not even joking. It's the best purchase I've made in a long time. Check them out: jacket one, and jacket two. <---I got the second one!

Busy Bee
First, I'd like to apologize to those who enjoyed the weekly knitting posts. Unfortunately, I had to miss the last two classes for work. I'll be going to my class tomorrow, but I think it's the last one (I'll have to check). I'm definitely not going to be as far as I wanted to be by the end of class. I wanted to be able to have my teacher show me some finishing techniques, but I'm no where near finished. Actually, my stocking looks pretty similar to the last picture I posted of it. I haven't had much free time for knitting the last few weeks.
However, while my knitting has taken a back seat in the last few weeks, I have been extraordinarily productive at work. The first class was missed due to a manufacturer's advisory meeting. Out of that meeting ended up coming a wonderful idea and opportunity for Downriver. I've been working on it for the last two weeks straight. Between the negotiations with the company and our own internal planning it has taken a lot of work, but we're in the final stages now.
Knitting class two was missed for a city Planning Board meeting that affected one of our branch locations. I attended the meeting, which ended up lasting from 7:30 to after midnight. In the end, however, my arguments to the Planning Board were persuasive enough that the board voted unanimously in Downriver's favor. It also helped that one of the board members was 100% on my side and vocalized that to the rest of the board. I have to say, I found it quite amusing watching a 70 year old man throw a temper tantrum when he lost. I wish, in that moment, that I had a video camera so that a) I could see my reaction to his temper tantrum, and b) so that I could replay it to him and show him just how childish and ridiculous he looked. It makes me laugh inside every time I think about it.

Happy Monday!
One of my best friends posted this on Friday, but I didn't get around to reading it until today. I thought it was the perfect start to my morning, and I feel I must share the wealth.
Truths For Mature Humans
1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.
2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.
4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.
5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?
6. Was learning cursive really necessary?
7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.
8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.
9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.
10. Bad decisions make good stories.
11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.
12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.
13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.
14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.
15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.
16. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.
17. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
18. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.
19. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?
20. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!
21. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.
22. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.
23. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time!
24. The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974.That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.

Happy Birthday Trina!
We want to wish a very happy 7th birthday to our Trina-Bina! We cannot believe that you are already 7 years old! You are growing up soooo fast! Your dad and I hope you have a wonderful birthday today, and a fantastically fun birthday party on Saturday! We love you and miss you bunches! Can't wait to see you in December!!! Kisses and hugs and lots of "forever" talks on the phone until then...
