Is it really almost July?

I cannot believe that it's almost July. Where has time gone?

It seems like last week I was getting married. But, last week, J was getting married. And it was more than a month ago that I was getting married!

I'm definitely looking forward to this coming weekend. Our annual trip up north for a long Independence Day weekend. I look forward to this trip every year. It is totally relaxing and an amazingly fun time. Although, it sucks every year because I never have cell service up there, so I can never call my wonderful J to tell her Happy Birthday. So, I'll give her an early *Happy Birthday* shout out right now. I hope a card will suffice. This year, Trina will be joining us for the first time up north. It's nice though because 3 of the other couples that go up there have small children. There will be a 7, 5, & 3 year old girl, as well as a 2 year old boy for her to buddy up with. We do a lot of swimming and fishing. And this year, the carnival and fireworks are on Sunday night.

The following Thursday we'll be attending a concert. Then, that weekend is Art in the Park in Downtown Plymouth. We go every year. And every year, it's about a billion degrees that weekend. Trina should have a good time, because they have a lot of children's activities in the park.

The weekend afterward we'll be heading out to the west side of the state to enjoy the beach & sand dunes. I am SO looking forward to this trip!!! I haven't been out there in a good 15 years, but I truly remember so much about it. And, it was a blast!

Then, the weekend after that is a trip to Greenfield Village & Museum. Ryan is actually pretty excited about it because he's such a history buff. I haven't been there since I was in 5th grade, and I truly don't remember very much about it. But, Trina saw an ad for it and wants to go. It's educational, and it's a museum...how can I say no???

That leaves me with 1 weekend that is free. And it likely won't remain free for much longer. We seem to book up months in advance. It's crazy, and that's not just our weekends. Our weekdays are even more packed than our weekends!

I feel so bad, because I had to make some hard decisions for the month of July. I was invited to a number of weddings that I would have loved to go to. I was also asked to stand in a couple this month as well. But, after I sat down and really thought about it, it's important that Ryan and I spend as much time with Trina as possible. We don't get to see her very often. And it seems absolutely silly (and irresponsible) for me to pawn her off every weekend so we can go to a wedding. I truly feel terrible that I had to say no to everyone, but I know they all understand. I can't wait to see pictures tho!!!

And I'll wrap this up with a shout out to my sister from a different mother: Jilly, I miss you! If you don't mind having a munchkin tagging around, I'd LOOOOVE to see you and Aaron sometime!!! XOXO

As promised...

Can we say plan Z? I don't think anyone involved with the wedding had what ended up happening cross their minds as a "possibility." While there were some major bumps in the road the day of the wedding...it ended up all turning out beautifully. And, as a bonus, I don't think *anyone* is going to forget that wedding.

The day started off wonderfully. We all got up and met in J's room around 10:30 for hair and make-up. For some reason, I didn't end up with a single shot of any of us getting ready. Maybe it was my subconscious screaming to not be posted online au naturale. Whatever the reason, my pictures begin with Miss J all done up and beautiful. Before getting all beautified...Dan and Sean showed up with lunch for all of us. We had a little bit of wine, and just generally hung out having a good time. While J was getting ready, Amy, Sean & I went down to check how things were coming along with the set-up. And, boy, am I sure glad we did! We got down to where the ceremony was supposed to take place and the chairs were set up all wonky. The three of us spent a good 45 minutes fixing all of the chairs. Did I mention that it was 96 degrees? Yeah, it was. And like 99% humidity. We were sweating buckets after about 5 minutes. Then, we took a trip to the ballroom where the reception was being set up. After looking at a few things we decided it was *definitely* not up to snuff. So, we went and chatted with the wedding coordinator, as well as the "captain" and requested that a number of things be fixed. Then, it was back upstairs to finish getting ready. Check out this beautiful bride!!!

Look at how absolutely beautiful Barb and Kathy look!!! I loved both of their dresses!!! And, I'm totally in love with Barb's new hair cut.

All of us girls and pretty and in our dresses.

Getting Miss J's veil in! Her veil was beautiful and she kept that thing on all night! I've got to give her credit. While I was in love with my veil, that thing came off just before dinner because I got so sick of everyone grabbing it and yanking my head backward. She's a trooper!!!

Beautiful!!!
After getting ready, we all headed outside to the area around where the ceremony was to take place for some pictures. The little area behind the hotel with the ponds and flowers was gorgeous! I kept check the sky the whole time we were out there. Every time I looked, everything appeared to be alright. It was a bit overcast, with the weather calling for isolated thunderstorms. But, based upon the sky it looked like the rain was going to hold out.

After taking the above pictures, we headed around the building to another area for pictures on the bridge. I took a look at the sky before walking over there, and it still looked like things would be fine. We literally were on the bridge for about 5 minutes taking pictures. In this picture you can see the storm starting to roll in. But, because our backs were to it, we didn't notice. As soon as I turned around to walk back, I saw the sky, and knew the ceremony would have to be inside. What I didn't know was what was about to happen next.

When we all saw the sky we decided to get inside as quickly as possible. We made it inside and took the elevators up to the 10th floor. Just as we got out of the elevator, the lights started to flicker, and then went out. I felt the tension rise to about breaking point. So, I tried to keep everyone calm. I tried to reassure everyone that there are generators, the power will probably come back on soon, we had plenty of time before the wedding, and even if it was a little delayed it wasn't a big deal. We got J back to her room, sat her down, got her some water, and tried to let her relax a little bit. It was about that point that we realized we were missing a maid. Mary had gotten stuck in the elevator with the photographer for the other wedding!!!
Eventually after a little bit of discussion and some stress, we eventually decided to have the ceremony in the ballroom. The power still wasn't back on, but there was plenty of light in the lobby for some "first look" pictures, and the ballroom (luckily) was being run by some generators.

And here are some pictures of the beautiful ballroom. J's colors were blue & purple. The centerpieces were exquisite. I loved that she had three different designs for the room, and they all looked wonderful. I think my favorite part was the tree at the entrance. It was AWESOME!

On to the ceremony! It was beautiful. The readers did a fantastic job. Everything worked out perfectly without a single problem. Once everything got started, it was almost as if the storm had never happened. I think everyone forgot about all the stress, and just got lost in the moment.

After the ceremony, everyone exited the ballroom and went into the lobby for cocktail hour. The bridal party and family went back outside (by now it has stopped raining) to take some more pictures. It took less than an hour, so we were able to make it in for the yummy food and drinks. The mini pizzas were delish, and of course I had one of the signature drinks (The Lenny) which consists of Malibu, pineapple juice, and a splash of grenadine. Ryan insists that he was up at the bar ordering two Miller Lites, and as soon as the bartender placed them down on the bar, the power miraculously came back on. Can we say Miller Lite ad?

I slipped back into the room before cocktail hour was over to take some pictures of the cake before it was too late! Isn't it beautiful?!?

The we all made our grand entrance. I have to say this next picture is one of my all time favorites!!!

And................................the new Mr. & Mrs. Malic!!!!

Onto the cake cutting. They both looked so darn cute and happy while they were cutting the cake and feeding it to each other. I think they both had a wonderful evening.

Here are some cute pics of the wedding party. I have to say that the one of Matt and Mary is priceless. I love those two.

And, the first dances. J & L, J & Dan, and L & Kathy. I was pretty surprised...everyone was a pretty decent dancer. Bravo boys.

And then we all danced the night away. J had bought purple glow sticks which were a huge hit. We all decked ourselves out in glow sticks and danced our little butts off for the rest of the night!

I had a GREAT time, and DEFINITELY will never forget her wedding. It ended up being a truly wonderful evening with some truly wonderful people. I love J & L's families and am super excited that I've been dubbed "one of the family" by both sides.
J & L should just be getting home from their honeymoon. I've been crossing their fingers that they didn't get any rain...I think they had enough of it on their wedding day!
I love you both!!! XOXO

Livonia Spree

We took the girls to the Livonia Spree today. I'm pretty sure they had an amazing time! The guys were really great about taking the girls on rides, and Ashley and I held all of the stuff they accumulated throughout the day. Ashley was a total trooper. She wasn't feeling well, but made it through the whole day.

Ashley and I had some fun with the face cut outs:

Savana and Trina started a little slowly on some of the kiddie rides, but eventually graduated to some of the bigger ones.
The girls played quite a few games and won a bunch of stuffed animals. They actually did a good job on the balloon darts. Savana popped three of them with four darts!!! Ryan and Eddie, however, didn't fare quite as hot in the shooting game they played :)

Swings!!! They had a lot of fun on these. After this we took them on the Matterhorn. Trina was having a blast on it until they started running it backward. She wasn't the biggest fan of that and sat there screaming into her stuffed animal. But, her and Savana went on it 2 more times by themselves.
Savana did NOT like the pirate ship. At. All. There was crying. And she hated Eddie for telling her to go on it for a good hour or so later.

It was hysterical watching them in the bumper cars. Savana was tall enough to drive one by herself, and she did a pretty darn good job.

The big slide was another favorite. They probably went down this 5 or 6 times.

After spending 4 hours in the scorching heat (92 degrees) we stopped off for some ice cream at the Dairy-go-round.

I have to say the best part of the Spree were the hamster balls the girls went in. It was hysterical watching the kids! Savana actually got the hang of it pretty quickly. Check it out:

Did you feel it?

The Canadian earthquake?

We felt it here in Metro Detroit.

Say What???

I know, I lied. I really don't have time to blog this week, but I found this so ridiculous/funny/bizarre that I had to post it.

So yesterday, prior to spending 5 hours in Delray and running around a 100 degree building like a nut, we stopped to grab lunch at McDonald's. We all had to use the bathroom to wash up because we were dirty. As I was walking into my bathroom, the guys pushed on the Men's Room door and it didn't open. I heard, "It's locked" as I made my way into the Women's. I come out, and the door is still locked. One of the guys made a smart-ass remark that there must be a crackhead in the bathroom (we were in Detroit). Then, they came back and I'm not even kidding you when I say this...they had to be buzzed into the bathroom.

For. Real.

Apparently, McDonald's DOES have trouble with the crack heads. So, in order to use the Men's Room, you have to go to the front counter and ask them to BUZZ YOU INTO THE BATHROOM. Like you're going into some super secure area.

Wow.

Just wow.

I wonder why there isn't a buzzer on the Women's Room? I'm pretty sure the gender sign on the door of the bathroom wouldn't dissuade the crack head wanting a fix.

Swamped

First things first, my wedding blog is going to be delayed. I'm swamped here at work, and I have a small child at home now, so I've been running around like a crazy person. I have a couple minutes right now to update, but I cannot possibly do the wedding justice in that amount of time. So, unfortunately, the wedding blog will likely not occur until this weekend. Sorry!

Quickly, I'll update:

As you all know, I attended Louis and Jenny's wedding this weekend. It's definitely a wedding I will never forget -- and probably not for the reasons you're all thinking. You'll just have to wait to find out.

Saturday, we drove up to Wisconsin and stayed overnight in a Courtyard Marriott. I have to say, it was a REALLY nice hotel. Seriously. They even upgraded me to a King Jacuzzi suite. The Jacuzzi in the room was awesome. We definitely made use of that...especially with all of our aching muscles from FAR too much dancing the night before.

Sunday we hung around the hotel, checked out at noon, and then wandered the mall for a little while until Trina arrived. We ate lunch, drove forever, then ate dinner, and drove forever more. Honestly, the drive was horrendous. We got caught in terrible traffic in Wisconsin. Mostly due to people puttering down the road at the speed of smell. Then we got stuck in a nasty traffic jam on I-90 in Illinois, JUST before our exit onto I-249. And then, we hit the mother of all traffic jams in Michigan on I-94. Please heed my advice: If you are going to be driving ANYWHERE around the Chelsea/Dexter area, AVOID I-94 at all costs. We sat in a jam with our GPS saying 30 minutes to home for over an hour. And when we finally got out of the jam, our GPS still said 30 minutes to home. So, we left Wisconsin at 1:00, and arrived in Canton at almost 11:00. 10 hours for what should have been 7. Boo.

But, we're here now. Trina had her first day of camp yesterday and LOVED it. She was super excited about every. single. thing. She even came home singing "Agalina Magalina," a song that I sang at that very same camp 15 years ago (remember Kaaron??). It totally cracked me up, so we sang the song all the way home in the car.

Then we celebrated Father's Day late at my parents house. Grandpa came over, and so did Ashley and Eddie. We grilled out (yummy!) and had a good time.

And now, I'm out. I have about 8 million things piled up on my desk that I have to do, and about 10 million other things that need to get done at home. Hope everyone has a fantastic week!

Brief Detour...

I generally hate when plans change. Not small plans, mind you. I'm not going to get my panties in a bunch over dinner plans changing. I'm talking big, made 8 months ago, involves a lot of travel-style plans. It's not that I'm inflexible, because for the most part I think I'm a pretty flexible person. But, the whole point of making plans 6-8 months out is so that everything is settled and we (read: I) don't have to rush around at the last minute trying to finalize anything. You also tend to get better prices on hotels, airfare, etc when you plan your trip ahead of time.

So, imagine my dismay when I find out that Trina's mother is requesting a change to our travel plans, less than one week prior to the travel. Original plan was this:

Wed: M leaves for IL
Thurs: M busies herself with wedding related duties, R leaves for IL
Fri: M & R attend Wedding in IL
Sat: M & R drive to WI to pick up Trina for the summer.

This plan was set months and months ago. We had the hotel room in IL until Saturday anway, so we could leave Sat. morning and meet them in WI for the pick-up. It works out perfectly.

So, Trina's mom calls and requests that we meet on Sunday instead because she'd prefer to go to her friend's wedding on Saturday. I'll have to admit my first thought was complete irritation. It seems that every time we have Trina she calls at some point to change something. Last visit: she wanted us to bring Trina back 2 days early so she could stay in a hotel with her in the UP. My next thought: Why is she telling us this now?!? Wouldn't she have known months ago about an impending wedding conveniently slated for our pre-planned pick-up/drop-off? But, I digress.

Ryan and I agreed that we'd try to accomodate the request. But, I truly don't think she even realizes how this *one* day severely messes up the plans. First, we now have to pay for another night in a hotel. Second, we have to waste an entire day doing absolutely nothing productive. Third, we won't get home until late Sunday night, so all of my plans to make life "smooth" will no longer happen because now I can't run any of the errands I planned on Sunday.

BUT...I'm going to try to enjoy this little detour from plans. Ryan and I decided that we'd get a hotel up on Wisconsin and spend Saturday and Sunday morning hanging around in a "new" city. First, we looked into hotels in The Dells. That idea got scrapped when we saw what was available for our dates: super crazy expensive resorts or creepy roach motels. Then we thought about Eau Claire, but if we went that far into WI, our drive back to MI would be 10 hours. Pass. Mauston? No decent hotels available. I would have loved to stay the night in Lake Geneva, but that's too far for Trina's mom to drive. So, we ended up settling on Madison. It's truly the 1/2 point between our homes anyway. It's not a "new" city to me, but it is to Ryan. So, I'm going to try to make the best of it while it's happening, and deal with the frenzy when we get home.

I leave tomorrow for Miss J's wedding, so I likely won't have any time to blog until sometime next week. XOXO. Melanie Out.

Wow...

...only 4 more days until my best friend and college roomie marries the man (or should I say men?) of her dreams!!!

It truly seems like yesterday that we were Juniors in college and J and L were feeling out the waters of a relationship. Who would have thought back then that the two of them would be tying the knot 5 years later? ::raises hand:: Yeah, I did. I bet neither of them even knew back then...but I had a pretty strong suspicion. For example, take a look at the way she's looking at him here...
She loves him!!! And, here are a few of my favorites of the happy couple:

And, even though L took his damn time to propose, here we are 4 days away from the day that was fated 5 long years ago. I cannot wait to get out there on Wednesday and help the two of them prepare for the best day of their lives. I am so thrilled and honored to be the matron of honor at the wedding of two people I adore more than anything in the entire world (well, except Ryan, but that's cause I *have* to).

I want to give them a big congratulations and a huge I love you! I can't wait to see you guys in less than 48 hours!

Wedding Gift Cards

I thought I would make a post about some of the things we got with the wonderful gift cards you all gave us for the wedding.

First, and what I am absolutely the most excited about, we used our Home Depot cards to get ourselves a patio set. I sorely missed a patio set last summer and with the warm weather we had early this year, I wanted so badly to go outside and eat lunch on the patio. So, thank you all of you who gave us Home Depot cards for our wedding. We purchased an umbrella too, but they were out of umbrella stands so the umbrella is sitting in the garage until we can get the stand. This is what you got us:
*You can sort of see the garden going behind the chaise. It's really taking off, and pretty much everything came up. We lost a few of the herbs, but other than that things are coming up wonderfully...but that's a post for another day!

And for all of you who gave us the Macy's gift cards, we decided it was about time to make our guest room a little more inviting. Before, nothing really matched the room color and decor, so we picked up an awesome bed set to complete the room. We also got a bunch of new towels and bathroom items. The best purchase of the day? Our Dyson Animal!!! And, here's what we got:

Thank you all for your wonderful generosity! We've yet to make use of the Lowe's, Kohl's, REI, and BB&B gift cards...but once we do, I'll keep you all updated!
