Travel to Florida yesterday was anything but uneventful. We'll begin the story with our 15 minute drive from our house to the airport. First, when reservations were made with Metro Cars, my mom wanted to go to the airport too early (at least in my opinion), so we had our car pick us up later. Before we've even left our house my dad calls to say there are over a 1,000 people waiting to check their bags at our airline and they'll probably still be in line by the time we got there. Roll to a half hour later, we arrive and sure enough the airport is PACKED. Thank goodness that my parents got to the airport early because we probably would have been late for our flight if we started at the back of the line. In the end, it didn't matter because our flight gets delayed.
After checking our bags, we now go wait in the line to go thru security. I wanted to opt out of the scanner, and my mom decided she did too, which apparently ruined the life of the TSA agent administering the scans. He very angrily called for female agents to pat us down. Sidenote: The patdown is nothing! After some of the stuff I read, I thought they were going to assault me or something. Yeah, not at all. Anyway, we get through security and walk to our gate only to find out our flight has been delayed a half hour...which ended up being over an hour. We didn't even board the plane until after 10 pm. We landed in Orlando about 10 minutes to 1 a.m. and immediately called our car rental company because they close at 1 a.m.
The lady at Payless said that if we didn't make it to the shuttle by 1 a.m. we couldn't get our car. Now, don't get me wrong, that statement was irritating because at 10 minutes to 1:00 we were still sitting on the airplane and the jetway hadn't even been attached yet, but I understood. That was until the lady told us that she would only hold our car until 6 a.m. the next morning when they opened back up. Um, WHAT? Then the lady got super rude and hung up the phone.
So, we get off the plane and decide to rent a car from another company because we just didn't want to deal with the logistics of getting to and from the hotel. So, we head to the Thrifty desk. They have a car, but only a Grand Marquis...YAY! We begrudgingly agree because we just want to go to bed at this point. We rent the car and the GPS, get out of the parking garage and the GPS stops working. We finally get the GPS working and stop at a gas station to get some waters...by now it's after 2 a.m., so Ryan can't buy any beer which makes him sad faces.
We finally get to our hotel and the lobby is locked. There is a sign on the door saying we have to drive a couple miles back the way we came to check in at the sister hotel. WTF Marriott??? We go back to the other hotel to check it. Turns out, they don't have our reservations. Marriott Corporate does, but not our complex. I watch the clock pass 3:00 and then 3:30 and then 3:45 and the guys finally come out saying they have more bad news. The key card machine broke and so the desk-guy has to drive us to our room and let us in. But, don't worry, they'll bring us keys in the morning. Huh??? I'm so tired at this point I don't care. We roll up to our room, unload our bags, and promptly fall asleep as the clock struck 4:30. YAYYYY!
But, we're here now (still don't have keys) and it's beautiful:
The pictures above are shots from the balconies off of our living room:
And finally a shot of the shower room that Ryan is so very in love with. He got out today and said that he wants a shower room in his house.
I'll update more later, but I've got to hop in the shower and we're going to head out to do a little grocery shopping for snacks and then meet up with the rest of the fam! <3
